The project "Creating the structure for training Professional parents»

On September 15, 2017 we had a seminar for substitute families and future foster parents at the Slavsk Child and Family resource centre. The meeting took place at three venues: 1. Irina Shpraer, the psychologist of the Slavsk branch, told the psychologists from the branches in Sovietsk, Yantarny, Baltiysk and Kaliningrad about the work with foster families and the experience of the «Slavsk Foster parents school". The experts exchanged their opinions on the methodology for obtaining a psychologic qualification for future foster parents as well as the importance of the psychologist opinion for the guardianship authorities. The representatives of the Kaliningrad Ministry of Social Policy M. Gagina, I. Zaitseva, L. Sveshcheva also took part in the work of the venue.

The second venue was entirely devoted to children from substitute families: they were offered to show their dexterity and strength in the gym, to make small gifts for their parents and, of course, to treat themselves to pies and sweets.

The third venue was given to the parents - members of the Slavsk foster parents club and future possible foster parents. Under the guidance of the psychologist from the Kaliningrad Child and Family resource centre Elena Romanenko they presented the portraits of their families, told about happy moments and discussed everyday problems. And what a lovely surprise we had! We watched "My Family" presentations from two large families in the Slavsk district and listen to a song-gift to the adoptive mother.

The project "Creating the structure for training Professional parents» continues

Our project is underway. On August 16, 2017 we had a working meeting with specialists and family psychologists at the Baltiysk Child and Family resource centre.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the methods of psychological testing for the future foster parents and to estimate their efficiency. The Head of the department Margarita Sunyaikina and the psychologist Elena Kashaeva told about the work of the «Foster parents School". There are some peculiarities of the work with potential parents in Baltiysk and its urban district. Some of the possible foster parents are people with rather high social status and they want to preserve the secrecy of the adoption or custody, that is why it is necessary to take it into account when group sessions with parents are planned.

The final testing of the future foster parents was conducted during the meeting. All other participants were offered to fill in the initial diagnostic tests used for testing substitute families and those who are just about to take care of an orphaned child.

EIena Romanenko, the psychologist of the Kaliningrad Child and Family resource centre, showed by a real example the method of identifying and analyzing traumatic events that become entrenched in parents’ minds as a factor that adversely affects the formation of parental competence.

Informational meeting at the Kaliningrad Child and Family resource centre

On July 19, 2017, a working meeting with 23 heads of the branches of the Kaliningrad Child and Family resource centre was held. One of the issues discussed was the organization of the work of the Foster parents school and the Family Support Service for those who have already taken custody of an orphaned child.

The methodist of the Center Galina Lendyushkina presented the latest training program for people who want to take care of an orphaned child. According to the proposed program the training course at the Foster parents school covers 12 topics. Duration of the course is 42 hours in the form of lectures (on-site and distant) and practical classes (on-site). For many branches of the Center this is a new direction of work, therefore, we are going to give them methodological and informational support first of all.

Deputy Director of the Center Lyudmila Sevastyanova told about the importance of the interaction between the Center and the non-profit organization Project PARUS. Besides she presented our common project.

Work shop «Training Professional parents»

Within the project "Creating the structure for training Professional parents" on July 12, 2017, we gave a workshop "Training professional parents" for psychologists of 12 branches of the Kaliningrad Child and Family resource centre. They accompany substitute families and train those who want to become foster parents in Svetly, Baltiysk, Slavsk, Yantarny, Nesterov, Mamonovo and Kaliningrad. The psychologist of the Center Elena Romanenko told about one of the methods of work with potential and adoptive parents based on the attachment theory. She highlighted the need to develop attachment in a substitute family and described the peculiarities of its formation in children from disadvantaged families and in children who lost their parents at different ages. This technique is widely used in Germany and England, and now in Russia. It has already proved its effectiveness for any form of child-parent relations.

The workshop participants highly appreciated the presented methodology and noted that it can be used along with other techniques from Russian family psychologists.
